Marrow is an augmented reality series about the mental states of the intelligent machines we create. Driven by the assumption that if machines have mental capacities they also have a capacity for mental disorders, the series aims to bridge the gap between the black box of AI and our own emotional opacity.
Code is written and developed based on human understanding of how we need to train our creations in order for intelligence to evolve. We reproduce our conceptual mind and ways of thinking when we define intelligent methods. Learning models are being designed outside of the binary to compute self-reflection, rich emotional landscapes and a deep understanding of the world. There is nothing “artificial” about this technology – it is affecting and inspired by humans.
Marrow explores some of the most influential learning models through a psychological lens. Each learning model is the basis of a character, deriving an emotionally driven set of rules from its mathematical logic. These rules set the conditions to generate a unique story and world around its tensions, patterns and architects, playing on the idea that machine learning reflects the ways we learn and grow. The narratives will take on the style of a surrealist fantasy, drawing from children’s books and fables with touches of darkness, humor and absurdity. In collaboration with artists working at the cutting edge of art and technology, seven AR animation episodes will be developed, each evoking a sense familiarity to our own formative childhood experiences.
