Conversations is an interactive narrative that reimagines the city of Delhi as seen by domestic workers and homemakers. Here, the quotidian becomes a site for experiencing the lives and mobility of the women. As co-creators they take the story in various directions – celebrating economic independence, contemplating strategies for survival in the city, the politics of domestic labour and even the joys of singing! The ‘invisible’ women of Delhi create narratives of compassion and resistance, elbowroom by elbowroom.
Anandana is currently developing the i-doc using mobile phone media contributed by her co-creators. Her research is informed by the modalities of access, literacy, asymmetry of digital ownership and class. The self, the other and the city intersect to create moments of rare intimacy in this feminist re-telling.
