Bunce Island: Through the Mirror by Max Musau is an immersive digital learning tool. Over the course of two years, the intersectoral and interdisciplinary team will conduct ongoing research into historical accuracy and authenticity, relying on “history from below” to bring otherwise peripheral historical individuals into rich and vibrant digital life. By bringing together Sierra Leonean students with traditional knowledge, Kenyan students who are building the growing African creative sector — particularly in game design and development, and Canadian students of history, anthropology, archaeology, and environmental science, we will collaboratively build a digital environment which closely adheres to scholarly research.
This project aims to produce an innovative pedagogical tool that will be valuable for African descendants who wish to better understand their ancestors’ trajectories, for learners within the African continent, and for learners in classrooms around the world.
