SELECTION OF KEY IDEAS (DIRECTOR’S CONTRIBUTION)

Andre Almeida (Film Director): The genre derives from the merge between digital media and documentary. It’s like when you make a cake: you use the same ingredients for the recipe but the result is different for each cake, but at it’s core it’s the merge between these two main areas.

Sandra Gaudenzi (Interactual Factual): Interactive documentary comes from the meeting point of the web, interactive technology and people who are documenting the world, but we need to consider the factor of a recent cultural need for participation (social culture, media, convergence, etc.). You can see this trend because authors of interactive documentary don’t come from the documentary field…

Sara Wolozin (MIT Open Documentary Lab): The form is at the intersection of technology and the documentary form. People are starting to create new practices around technology, changing who’s telling stories and the way we do that, but how that technology is being used is the key thing here.

Daniel Burwen (JauntVR): One of the factors is the difference between narration and interaction. The ‘sense of agency’ is important for interactive media and videogames, giving choice to the user fights against the nature of film. We are just starting to explore these new ways of telling stories.
