On April 4 at 12pm, Nieman Foundation fellow Sandra Barrón Ramírez, and María Laura Ruggiero and Gia Castello from StoryHackers will be at Open Documentary Lab to discuss their recent work.

SeirenFilms is a transmedia storytelling and experiential design company based in Argentina. Ranging from Film to VR, from documentaries to interactive installations, this lab explores new narratives in the digital universe combining a passion for stories and poetry and a love for tech and a human approach to the virtual realm.

StoryHackers, a pop-up lab about the future of storytelling, is SeirenFilms’s educational adventure, offering a DIY-Guerrilla approach to digital creators and a nomad vision that’s been traveling all over the world offering workshops, mentorships and talks in México, Cuba, Uruguay, Brasil, Costa Rica, Colombia, Bolivia, Germany,Iceland, England, Spain, US and more.  The lab is supported by OEI and the National Board of Culture of Argentina.

María Laura Ruggiero (will join via Skype)

Filmmaker, animator and storyteller specialized in Experience Design and Transmedia storytelling (Power to the Pixel, Transmedia Next, Forward Storytelling, R/O Institute, FIPA). International speaker (Berlinale, SXSW) and teacher in the fields of film innovation and VR. (Cuba, Mexico, Brasil) Member of Werner Herzog’s Rogue Film School. NATPE Diversity Fellow and Jihlava MEDIA Emerging Producer. María Laura guides the StoryHackers Lab (New media Lab supported by OIE) and runs SeirenFilms, a company devoted to the exploration of new narrative languages.

Her latest project is Kintsugi, a film+VR experience about the nature of love and breakups. She was recently a panelist at SXSW 2017 at Rise of Latin American VR.

Gia Castello 

Gia is a Media and Entertainment Manager from Ecuador who today lives in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Trained in both artistic and business skills, her work covers a vast array of fields and interests. She is Project Manager at SeirenFilms, VR line producer at ÑoñoVR, co-founder of the reading group BookSurfing Argentina, Chicas Poderosas Ambassador where she helps empowering woman in media through technology, and ex-community leader for Startup Weekend Buenos Aires. In addition, she is a team member at the Cosquín International Film Festival FICIC. Representing these projects and spreading the word and knowledge, she has been speaker in festivals like SXSW, HacksHackers, Mar del Plata Film Fest, among others.

Sandra Barrón Ramírez

Sandra Barrón Ramírez, product designer at Transparencia Mexicana, Visiting Fellow at Nieman Foundation. Her current project is about developing a central data index for disappeared and missing people in Mexico. The platform will be a tool for journalists, NGOs and families to verify cases and access information.
