Kathy Trogolo will present and discuss the process and outcomes of a recent VR project co-designed with a local Girls Who Code Club. In this project, middle school students learned about immersive technologies, WebVR, and designing and coding for 3D environments. They also grappled with their developing identities as technical contributors and how to bring their creative talents to a new medium. This project highlights many issues that impact future workforce development, evolving culture in hi-tech industries, and community-building, such as inclusive instructional design, development of affinity groups, and access to the raw materials of technical experience.
Kathy Trogolo is CEO and Co-Founder of Fasility LLC, a WebXR company focused on putting web-based augmented and virtual reality creation tools into the hands of everyday people. She is also the founder of the New England meetup group Women in the Next Realities. She has extensive classroom experience with students and teachers as a technology specialist and administrator, as well as software development experience. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Cornell University and a Master of Arts in Educational Technology Leadership from The George Washington University.
