Sultan Sharrief is a transmedia activist, filmmaker, educator, and social entrepreneur. Sharrief’s interest lies at the intersection of art, business, and community impact. His directorial debut, Bilal’s Stand, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2010 in the inaugural program of the NEXT category. He was a two-year fellow at the National Center for Institutional Diversity to further develop his Detroit youth program and study ways media impacted access to higher education. He has produced two other feature films and created a youth reality show for PBS national, Street Cred, which features Detroit youth learning entertainment-producing skills. He is a guest instructor at the University of Michigan and a curator for the Cinetopia International Film Festival. He recently shot an Afro-futurist VR 360 film for a fellowship with the Detroit Narrative Agency. Currently, Sharrief is a graduate student at the Comparative Studies and Writing program at MIT.
