Please join us to hear Anne Dymek discuss her proposal for a philosophical understanding of the concept of “media realism” as solely technological, i.e. as distinct from narrative, social or factual definitions of realism that describe the portrayed events of a story. A closer look at some philosophical theories of ‘reality’ as well as at some phenomenological theories of film and photography will help illuminate her understanding of technological media realism.
Anne holds a PhD in philosophy of film from the Université Panthéon-Sorbonne (Paris 1). The central themes of her research are perception, language and the accessibility of reality. Anne is currently pursuing a PhD in Germanic Languages and Literatures at Harvard, working on a research project in the philosophy of language. She is author of “Cinéma et Sémiotique: Deleuze en question” (Le Bord de l’Eau, 2015) and has published a number of articles on visual semiotics. Anne is also the editor of the French book series “Signes d’Art”.
