I Come From Giants by Cindy Bishop

I Come From Giants (working title) is a short memoir in virtual reality by ODL Fellow Cindy Bishop.

On the back of the common chicken, the human population has thrived in the last century. The protagonist is a philosophizing chicken whose identity is only revealed once we see her surrounds, the farmyard. She examines the seemingly universal need to denigrate the Other, to essentially enslave certain demographics, and how it is ultimately destructive across societies. She shares the repercussions of being the daughter of a hen-pecked mother, and how similar barnyard politics have broad application writ large. She remarks how her ancestors were once giants roaming the earth (the chicken is the closest descendant of the dinosaur) at the top of the food chain, but yet the current plight of her species is to be dinner for another population, and as a chicken, she has no rights whatsoever (the chicken is the only animal that is not protected by the FDA).
