Perkons: A VR Rockumentary
In 1981, a band from Latvia took on the Soviet establishment with homemade instruments, a 2 KW sound system and a hard rock sound. The Soviet authorities banned Perkons twice, put their fans on trial and tried to force the band into exile. Ultimately though, the harder the regime tried to silence Perkons, the more powerful their music became. In the late 1980s, Perkons’ music inspired a revolution in Latvia, which Gorbachev has said is where the fall of the Soviet Union began.
Cory McLeod, creative technologist at Fallon Minneapolis, will talk about the making of Perkons: A VR Rockumentary. The talk will focus on the process of creating the world of Perkons’ story for virtual reality and how VR can make history relevant to audiences today.
