Architecting the New News

Journalism and documentary are facing similar challenges: disrupted business models, a tsunami of new platforms, and hard questions about racial and gender equity. What will it take to reshape nonfiction storytelling in ways that are more equitable and sustainable? These are questions that the Guild of Future Architects (GoFA) will be tackling with its forthcoming New/s project, which is informed by Jessica Clark and Farai Chideya’s report Reconstructing American News. We’ll hear New/s project director Jessica Clark. Join us for a discussion of what Clark has learned so far — and what might come next.

Jessica Clark is the founder and executive director of media strategy, production, and forecasting firm Dot Connector Studio. She is the publisher and co-founder of Immerse.news, co-author of the Making a New Reality Toolkit (August 2020) and a research affiliate at MIT’s Open Documentary Lab. She works with makers, funders, and academics to research and develop new and inclusive forms of social impact media and art.
